Professional Statement

Dr Seow Kang Hong is an orthopaedic surgeon with about 25 years of experience in the field. He currently practices at his clinics at Mount Elizabeth, Mount Elizabeth Novena and Parkway East Hospitals and specialises in the treatment of knee and hip-related conditions, performing about 150 knee and hip-related surgeries each year.

Dr Seow graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS) in 1974. Following that, he underwent basic training, completed specialty training and was subsequently admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS Edinburgh and Glasgow). Later, he was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery), Singapore in 1984.

Prior to setting up his private practice, Dr Seow joined the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) as a consultant in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1989. He was appointed Deputy Head of the department in 1998 and was concurrently appointed as Director to its Adult Reconstruction Service till 2002, where he was instrumental in bringing the department to new heights. While at SGH, Dr Seow has participated actively as a committee member with the Rehabilitation Centre Advisory Committee and the Blood Transfusion Committee.

Besides his commitment to his clinic and patients, Dr Seow spends time teaching and training the physicians and Orthopaedic surgeons of the future. He currently serves as Clinical Teacher and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and appointed supervisor for Advanced Specialty Training Programmes with the Academy of Medicine. He has also previously served as Honorary Professor to the Qingdao 2nd People’s Hospital, China in 1997.

In addition to that, Dr Seow’s vast knowledge and expertise in orthopaedic surgery has taken him to various overseas conferences in China, Vietnam, Pakistan and India where he has presented at events such as the Annual Scientific Meeting, the Shanghai Hip and Knee Symposium and the Scientific Meeting for the Arthroplasty Society. Dr Seow is also a widely published writer for a number of peer reviewed journals such as the Journal of Arthroplasty and the Annals Academy of Medicare, as well as a Guest Editor of the Orthopaedic Journal of China and Reviewer of the National Medical Research Council of Singapore from 2000 to 2005.

Dr Sean Ng is an orthopaedic surgeon currently practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. Dr Ng’s clinical interests are in percutaneous and minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, and also arthritis, trauma and sports conditions.

Dr Ng graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2001. He obtained his postgraduate Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2006, and his Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2007. He subsequently obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2010.

Prior to entering private practice, Dr Ng was a consultant with the Foot and Ankle Service in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), as well as a board member of the Medical Board of SGH. He is currently a visiting consultant back at SGH.

Through the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Program, Dr Ng completed his orthopaedic foot and ankle training at the largest and most prestigious hospital in Switzerland, the Hopitaux Universitaires de Geneve (HUG) in Geneva.

Besides being trained in general orthopaedic surgery, Dr Ng manages and performs surgery for a lot of arthritis, sports and lower limb conditions. He also has an active interest in foot and ankle surgery. Other than the management and correction of deformities of common foot and ankle conditions, he is also interested in percutaneous and minimally invasive surgery of the foot. The aims of percutaneous surgery is to achieve as good a result as open surgery, with minimal scarring, and hence more cosmetically acceptable to the patient. Dr Ng is the only surgeon currently offering this service locally and regionally. As such, he is also a faculty member of the GRECMIP (European Group for the Study and Research of Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Foot and Ankle), as well as the Singapore Orthopaedic Association.

Dr Ng is highly involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching and training. He is a clinical tutor in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, as well as with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. Dr Chong graduated from the National University of Singapore with the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He subsequently obtained the Master of Medicine in Orthopaedics (MMed) from the National University of Singapore and was admitted subsequently as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh (Orthopaedics). After his training in Germany, Dr Leon Foo Siang Shen completed a clinical attachment in orthopaedic oncology at the world renowned Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) in the US.  He returned to Singapore in 2010 and was appointed as a Consultant with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at SGH.  He was also concurrently appointed as Visiting Consultant to the National Cancer Centre Singapore, Kandang Kerbau Women & Children’s Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr Foo has an active interest in orthopaedic oncology, both bone and soft tissue cancers.  As the surgical member in the multi-disciplinary oncology team looking after cancer patients, Dr Foo contributed his expertise and experience in cancer tissue removal, as well as the subsequent reconstructive surgery. Dr Razmi completed his postgraduate degree in 1996. He has received MOH scholarships to further his surgical skills development in basic surgery and orthopaedic surgery, and was subsequently awarded a clinical fellowship at the Spinal Unit, Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma, Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide, Australia.

Dr Razmi has published several reputable peer reviewed spine journals, presented at many international meetings and is a member of the AOSpine International, an association dedicated in improving spine patient surgical outcomes and ensuring cost effective spine surgery.

Dr Ooi graduated from United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals in 1996. He subsequently obtained a Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery and FRCS (Edinburgh) in Orthopaedic Surgery. He was involved in the clinical and surgical care of soccer players, which included the top soccer players of FC Barcelona and Europe. Apart from being involved in surgeries, Dr Soon was also trained in the use of PRGF (platelet-rich in growth factors), which was pioneered in Spain and used for the treatment of sports injuries.

Further to his fellowship, Dr Soon was also attached to Rush University Medical Centre, Chicago, Illinois where he was trained in cartilage preservation and restoration, and shoulder surgery. Apart from clinical work, Dr Soon was also heavily involved in teaching and training of doctors and nurses. He lectured at the Alice Lee Centre of Nurses for the Master of Nursing Critical Care. He is also an instructor for the ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support). He is an instructor at ISAKOS arthroscopic courses and has been a Faculty Instructor for the Arthrocare knee and shoulder courses since 2007.

Dr Soon is keen on research and was awarded the Young Orthopaedic Investigator of the Year in 2004 for his work on allograft and stem cells.
