Dr Christopher Hobbs is an ear, nose, throat (ENT) specialist currently practicing at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. Dr Christopher Hobbs underwent surgical training in London, Bristol and Birmingham and spent two years as a clinical research fellow under the mentorship of Professor Martin Birchall, one of world's leading laryngeal specialists. This culminated in the award of a medical doctorate from the University of Bristol and a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Dr Hobbs spent two years in Australia where he completed Advanced Fellowship training in Head & Neck Surgery and Laryngology/Voice at St.Vincent's Hospital in Sydney, and Head & Neck Oncology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. As well as having extensive experience in adult ENT surgery, Dr Hobbs is fully trained in paediatric ENT, having worked at The Royal Hospital for Children in Bristol and Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the UK.

Dr Hobbs was first appointed as a consultant with Western Health in Melbourne in 2009. He has been practising in Singapore since 2011, first as a consultant in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), and more recently as chief of the Head & Neck Cancer service at TTSH. In addition to obtaining his Ministry of Health board certification to practice as an ENT surgeon in Singapore, Dr Hobbs has been on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register in the UK since 2008.

Since being in Singapore, he has continued to develop his skills in head and neck surgery by completing advanced training in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and robotic thyroidectomy in Hong Kong and South Korea. He was subsequently part of the first team to perform TORS at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. In addition to that, Dr Hobbs is fully accredited and trained in laser surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, coblation techniques and sialoendoscopy.

Dr Hobbs is highly committed to research and teaching. He has published widely on all aspects of otolaryngology/ head & neck surgery and has presented academic papers in the Australia, Canada, Europe, USA and the UK. During his time in Australia, Dr Hobbs was in charge of undergraduate otolaryngology teaching at the Western Hospital Campus of the University of Melbourne and was shortlisted for Tutor of the Year Award. He was formerly adjunct assistant professor with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and clinical senior lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

His outstanding performance in the intercollegiate surgical exams in Otolaryngology in 2006 earned him the Gold Medal of the Royal Society of Medicine. His training in the care of head and neck cancer patients was at the Royal Marsden Hospital - the world's oldest cancer hospital - and at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane under Professor WB Coman. He also was awarded the prestious Simpson-Smith Travelling fellowship to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, New York in 2004. Keeping with recent advancements in the field of surgical oncology, Dr Jeeve has completed advanced training in robotic head and neck surgery in South Korea and was part of the team at Tan Tock Seng Hospital to perform the first transoral robotic surgery case there. Dr Jeeve is trained in paediatric ENT - having been privileged to work at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. In 2011, he received a Singapore Ministry of Health(HMDP) award to pursue care of the Professional voice in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, USA.

Dr Jeeve's main area of specialist interest is in thyroid surgery, voice surgery and head and neck cancer surgery. he was Chief of the Head and Neck Cancer Service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital until October 2012. He had the opportunity to treat many complex head and neck cancer and thyroid cancer cases, including cases from the region and the Middle East referred to him by Johns Hopkins International Medical Centre. He convened the first inaugural joint head and neck cancer meeting in Singapore with the head and neck cancer societies of Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong in September 2011. He has taught in several international head and neck courses both in Australasia (Brisbane 2009, Perth 2010) and in Southeast Asia (Myanmar 2011, Malaysia 2012).

Dr Jeeve is one of a handful of ENT surgeons in Singapore on the General Medical Council's (GMC) Specialist Register in the United Kingdom. He is also a registered as a medical practitioner in Australia and Malaysia.

Dr Jeeve is widely published and continues to have an active interest in teaching and research. He has authored three book chapters and 27 peer-reviewed scientific papers todate. He is assistant professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He is an examiner in the exit examinations in Otolaryngology in Singapore, and has been an external examiner to universities abroad. In 2012, he was selected by medical undergraduates as one of the top 10 teachers in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His commitment to postgraduate training led to his appointment to the National Residency Advisory Committee in Otorhinolaryngology.

Professional Statement

A/Prof Mark LC Khoo is highly regarded as a head and neck surgical oncologist. He is also widely published in international journals in the field of head and neck cancer and has authored several notable articles on nasopharyngeal cancer and thyroid cancer.

His love for Head and Neck Surgery began early, inspired greatly by his mentor Prof. Soo Khee Chee (Director, National Cancer Centre, Singapore). With the blessings of TTSH, Dr Khoo had the good fortune of operating with Prof. Soo in SGH once a week for 5 years from 1995 to 1999. Simultaneously, he started the first dedicated cancer service for head and neck cancer patients in TTSH in 1996. This critical and formative 5 year period set the foundation for his practice today.

In August 1999, Dr Khoo left for Toronto, Canada to complete a 2 year fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery under the auspices of the American Head and Neck Society. To date, he remains one of only a handful of people in Singapore to have completed the official American head and neck surgery fellowship programme.

Upon returning to Singapore in 2001, Dr Khoo was appointed Chief of the head and neck service in TTSH, as well as visiting consultant to the National Cancer Centre Singapore, both appointments he continues to hold today. In 2007, he was amongst the founding faculty of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School where he is currently Adjunct Associate Professor.
