Dr Abel Soh Wah Ek graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.,B.S.) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2000. He trained in Internal Medicine at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and attained the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom [MRCP (UK)] in 2006. In 2010, Dr Abel Soh was awarded the SingHealth Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) fellowship in Diabetes in Pregnancy at the Joslin Diabetes Centre, USA. Upon his return from the USA, he co-ran the Gestational Diabetes Joint Clinic (GDJC) in SGH together with the obstetricians. He initiated the Pre-Ramadan counselling program for Muslim patients with diabetes at Singapore General Hospital in 2011. In 2012, he received the Singapore Health Quality Service Gold Award.

Dr Abel Soh was actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at Singapore General Hospital. He served as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Medicine at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He was also in the Core Faculty of the SingHealth Internal Medicine Residency program. Dr Soh has published in several peer-reviewed scientific journals and has also penned two book chapters. Dr Koh graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1985. Dr Ho Su Chin has a keen interest in the subspecialty of Thyroidology. She received her HMDP award to train in molecular endocrinology at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium. She was one of the pioneering members of SingHealth Clinician Scientists to embark on the dual tracks of clinical care and medical research. During her research career, Dr Ho successfully secured grants from funding agencies such as the National Medical Research Council and the Biomedical Research Council. The main focus of her interest centered on thyroid autoimmunity and she has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals on this. In addition, she has also conducted and published clinical studies dealing with weight loss and lipid issues.

Dr Ho has extensive clinical experience treating all aspects of thyroid illnesses ranging from autoimmune thyroid disease to thyroid dysfunction in pregnancy, nodular thyroid disease and thyroid cancer. Professional Statement

In 2004, whilst still pursuing her subspecialty training in Endocrinology, Dr Chia Su Ynn was given a research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA. During this one and a half year period, she conducted research on blood markers for the diagnosis and management of thyroid cancer, for which she was awarded the Merlin Bumpus Young Researcher Award (2nd prize) by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Dr Chia has wide ranging interests particularly in thyroid disease and diabetes. She is the only endocrinologist in Singapore so far to receive the specialist credential Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE). This rigorous credential is only awarded to endocrinologists who have satisfied a high standard for performing thyroid and neck ultrasounds, as well as ultrasound-guided biopsies of thyroid nodules.

Dr Chia also has a great interest in managing diabetes, and strongly believes in empowering both physician and patient in combating this growing problem. To this end, she has given numerous educational talks on diabetes to the medical community, both internationally and locally. Dr Vivien Lim graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical School in 1998  After gaining both an MRCP (UK) and a Masters in Internal Medicine in Singapore, she embarked on endocrinology training in Singapore and was  accredited as a Specialist in Endocrinology in 2008.

After she completed her training, she was awarded the Human Manpower Development Programme Scholarship by the  Ministry of Health to gain wider experience in complex cases of endocrinology in the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA. While there, Dr Lim also obtained certification as a clinical densitometrist with the International Society of Clinical Densitometry.

Upon her return, she worked as a consultant in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and the Diabetes Centre where she ran clinics in  general endocrinology as well as diabetes, bone and calcium clinics and adrenal/pituitary clinics in addition to providing  thyroid and fine needle aspiration cytology services. She set up the adrenal and osteoporosis service and also a multi-disciplinary pituitary conference in the hospital. Dr Lim also held the post of programme director of the endocrine residency programme in KTPH.

Dr Lim was appointed as a Senior Lecturer to the National University of Singapore, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. She has also been elected to and currently holds the position of Vice-President of the Endocrine Metabolic Society of Singapore and executive committee member of the Osteoporosis Society of Singapore.

Dr Lim has a passion for humanitarian causes and is the Peer Coordinator of Doctors Without Borders (Medicins Sans Frontieres) in Singapore.
