Professional Statement

Dr Francisco graduated with honours from the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City, Mexico. He obtained his MRCP (UK) in London, United Kingdom, where he did his senior medical officer postings at the Royal London Hospital and Barts Hospital. He specialised in Nephrology at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where he acquired 10 years of experience as a Nephrologist.

 Dr Francisco is accredited as a Specialist Nephrologist Consultant at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hopital (Orchard) and Parkway East Hospital in Singapore. He has also set up his own private practice currently at ME Novena Specialist Group. He is also a visiting consultant at NKF Singapore.

 Dr Francisco’s main clinical interests are the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of several kidney disorders including glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis, and of chronic kidney disease due to diabetes, hypertension, polycystic kidney disease and other rarer conditions of the kidneys. He also subspecialised in kidney transplantation at the SGH and he is an eager advocate of kidney transplantation and live donation for the management of kidney failure. He is also proficient in the management of patients on haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, as well as in the care of those patients opting for no dialysis or delaying the initiation of dialysis.

 Finally, Dr Francisco was also trained as an Immunologist at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, under the supervision of Prof Sir Robert Lechler. He was awarded a distinction for his MSc in thymopoiesis and had straight-pass during his PhD thesis viva on "Transplantation Tolerance and Immunoregulation". Dr Francisco was actively involved in many research projects at the SGH, where he held few institutional research grants for the study of the immune mechanisms behind kidney transplant rejection, glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis. His work led to several international publications, but more importantly, it has equipped him with a greater understanding of the disease processes underlying the kidney disorders he manages. Thus, he does not only provide holistic and empathic specialist medical care to his patients, but also provides them with evidence-based and up-to-date medical advice.

Professional Statement

Dr Tan Seng Hoe is a nephrologist working in Gleneagles Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital where he sees patients with various kidney-related conditions. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field.  

Dr Tan Seng Hoe graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1990). Upon completing his basic training in Internal Medicine, he underwent Advanced Specialty Training in Renal Medicine at the Division of Nephrology in National University Hospital. Then in 2000, through the Health Manpower Development Programme scholarship, he pursued further training in Peritoneal Dialysis at the Division of Nephrology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. He was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 2000 as well as of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2004.

Prior to coming into private practice, Dr Tan was a senior consultant at the Renal Medicine Unit at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He spearheaded the Unit’s development and served as the Founding Head subsequently.

Dr Tan’s commitment to the field of nephrology extends into many aspects. A firm believer of educating and moulding future doctors, he is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He also sits on the Renal Medicine Specialist Training Committee.

He is also actively involved in various committees. Some of the more significant ones include the Singapore Society of Nephrology where he was Honorary Secretary and the National Healthcare Group Domain Specific Review Board (Domain E) where he was Deputy Chairman. The Board ensures the rights and safety of human subjects involved in a research study. Dr Tan is also a Board Member of the Chapter of Renal Physicians, College of Physicians. In addition, he is an active member of the Medical Advisory Committee, Tender Committee and Research Committee of the National Kidney Foundation, Singapore as well as the Medical Advisory Committee of the Kidney Dialysis Foundation.

In 2003, Dr Tan received the Commendation Medal, National Day Award and the National Healthcare Group’s Courage Star Award. Both awards were in recognition of his efforts in overcoming SARS. In addition, he was awarded the Excellent Service Award (Silver) in 2008 by Spring Singapore.

He completed his MBBS in 1998 at the National University of Singapore, MRCP in 2003 at the at the Royal College of Physicians, UK, FRCPEd at the at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK and FAMS in 2010 at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Ng Tsun Gun works involves general nephrology including managing difficult cases of hypertension, evaluation of blood and/or protein in the urine, treatment of glomerular diseases and diabetic kidney disease, renal retardation therapy for chronic kidney disease, evaluation of acute kidney injury, treatment of recurrent or complex urinary tract infections and medical therapy for urinary calculi amongst others.
