Dr Eugene Sim is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon practicing at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. He has performed more than 3000 cases of open heart surgery. Dr Eugene Sim is renowned for his pioneering work in cardiac surgery.

In Nov 1995, Dr Eugene Sim was one of the first surgeons in Asia to perform minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass grafting and has performed more than 100 such procedures to date. He was also the first surgeon in Asia to perform off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting using the Octopus stabilizer and has conducted many training courses to train surgeons in the use of this new technique.

He was one of the first surgeons in the region to perform thoracoscopic ligation of a patent ductus arteriosus in Dec 1995, Thoracoscopic anterior release for scoliosis in January 1996, thoracoscopic thymectomy in 1997, multivessel off pump coronary artery bypass grafting in July 1997 and robotic assisted coronary artery bypass surgery in April 2000. Dr Sim was appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery in 2001.

Dr Eugene Sim has conducted more than 10 approved trials on new surgical techniques and equipment. He is a director of two biotechnology companies and sit on many scientific advisory boards. He has also been consulted by and advised various international medical device companies.

Dr Sim is renowned for his work on cell and myoblast transplant for heart failure. His work has been presented at the Scientific sessions of the American Heart Association, The American College of Cardiology, The European Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and the European Congress of Cardiology. On 14 May 2002, he become the first surgeon in Asia to perform pure myoblast transplantation in the failing heart.

Dr Ralph E Stanley is an ENT Surgeon / Otorhinolaryngologist at Stanley ENT & Sinus Centre Pte Ltd in Gleneagles Medical Centre.

He completed his MBBS in 1978 at the University of Singapore, FRCS (ENT) in 1982 at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and FAMS (ENT) in 1988 at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Ralph E Stanley was a member of the Chapter of Surgeons Committee in the 1990’s as well as in the Organising Committee of the Head and Neck Surgery Course that was held in Singapore. Dr Ralph E Stanley was the Head and Senior Consultant in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery) at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) from 1992. During this period, he went on to set up an Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Laboratory with comprehensive facilities for the training of younger surgeons in this specialized field in SGH. He also spearheaded the development of Head, Neck and Thyroid surgery and Advanced Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in the ENT Department (SGH). This is particular reference to Endoscopic Pituitary Surgery which was performed in the department with the Neurosurgical Team. His other contributions have been in the development of a Comprehensive Voice Laboratory and clinic at SGH leading to a successful Post-Laryngectomy Voice Restoration Program.

He was also honoured as Visiting Professor in Stanford University Medical Centre, Palo – Alto, California, USA in 1993. Dr Ralph E Stanley was a member of the Quality Assurance Committee of Gleneagles Hospital in 2004/2005 and 2005/2006. He is currently the Senior Consultant ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon at Gleneagles Medical Centre, Singapore and is on the Medical Expert Panel for the Primary Dispute Resolution Centre, Subordinate Courts, Singapore.

Dr Ralph E Stanley has lectured extensively internationally. He was honoured as International Guest Speaker at the Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgeon Update in 1994 organised by the Canadian Society of Otorhinolaryngology in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. He also organised and directed an Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Course in Ho Chi Minh City and has been guest lecturer in Myanmar, Brunei and Western Australia. He has authored and co-authored numerous papers in both local and international journals. He also wrote a chapter (Clinical Presentation) in a book “Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma”. He continues to lecture on numerous CME programs in Singapore and has been invited as guest speaker in Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei and Western Australia.

Professional Statement

Dr Reginald Liew is a Cardiologist practicing at Gleneagles Hospital. He is widely recognized both regionally and internationally in the field of heart rhythm problems and was involved in some of the early pioneering clinical studies in the UK validating the use of 3D-mapping systems to treat complex heart rhythm problems. He has mentored many cardiologists in the UK, Singapore and the surrounding region in performing cardiac electrophysiology (EP) procedures and regularly proctors EP cases in neighbouring countries.

Dr Reginald Liew received his UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2008 and was appointed consultant cardiologist at the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) in 2008 and senior consultant in 2012. Dr Liew was elected Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) in 2010 and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) in 2012.

Dr Reginald Liew has a strong track record in both clinical and translational research and was formerly deputy director of the Research and Development Unit at NHCS. His research interests include atrial fibrillation, sudden cardiac death and the use of stem cells in cardiovascular disease. Dr Dr Reginald Liew was awarded the prestigious British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship from 2000 to 2003 and obtained a PhD from Imperial College London for his research on the arrhythmic actions of oestrogens on the heart.

Dr Reginald Liew holds an academic position as assistant professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore where he continues to teach and mentor medical students. He is the course organizer for the cardiovascular component of the first-year normal body course. He has presented his research and been invited to be guest speaker at many national and international meetings and has published over 100 papers and abstracts in high impact peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Tan obtained his basic and higher medical degrees from the University of Singapore (NUS). Before joining Healthway Medical, he practiced psychiatry at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), specifically in the areas of general and forensic psychiatry. Dr Tan Yu Meng was trained in advanced hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation at the world renowned Liver Unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK. He furthered his skills in living donor liver transplantation under the guidance of Professor K Kanaka in Japan.  He led a team to perform the first successful spilt liver transplant at SGH in 2007 and the first combined Heart-Liver Transplantation in Asia in 2009.

Dr Tan left for private practice in May 2010. He is the founder and chief surgeon of ‘FeM Surgery’ at Parkway Hospitals, a multidisciplinary practice. Munidasa Winslow has worked in general psychiatry and addiction medicine at the Institute of Mental Health since 1988. He was one of the pioneers responsible for the setting up and development of addiction services both in the hospital and in the community. His last appointment was as chief of the Addiction Medicine Department, IMH. He is recognised as an expert in addiction and impulse control disorders (alcohol, substance dependence, gambling, gaming, sexual compulsivity etc) in the Asia-Pacific region frequently speaking at conferences around the region. Dr Jimmy K. S. Beng is a medical director and consultant urologist in private practice and has been actively pursuing the field of male erectile dysfunction for more than two decades. He holds a keen interest in alternative therapies for sexual problems and inadequacies and has pioneered various modalities in the field of urology including Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotrispy, a method to break down kidney stones using shockwaves without invasive surgery.

 Prior to private practice, Dr Beng was a senior lecturer in the Department of Surgery, National University of Singapore (NUS). During his tenure in the department, he was involved in all aspect of urological work and published several papers on Transurethral Surgery.

 Dr Beng was President of the Singapore Urological Association 1990-1992 and chaired the 10th World Congress on Endourology and Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy which attracted over international participants to Singapore.
